I would like to accept the award in the name of the victims in Haiti, especially the victims of the Raboto massacre, whose courage and persistence make our work possible.

I would like to thank CJA even more for seven years of collaborating to bring our fight for justice to the United States.

We have a proverb in Haiti, “men anpil, chay pa lou.” It means “many hands make the burden light.” Can you say it with me? “Men anpil, chay pa lou”. Again…

For More Information see http://www.haitisolidarity.net/article.php?id=217, call 510-847-8657 or email feb29@sonic.net.

Four years after the Feb. 29, 2004 coup d’etat that overthrew the democratically-elected government of President Aristide…4 years after US Special Forces kidnapped the President at gunpoint from his home, late at night, and flew him on a military plane to exile in Africa…and 4 years after US Marines seized control of Haiti’s capital and installed a US-appointed coup regime…

Haiti is still under foreign military occupation, by a UN force that replaced the Marines in June 2004. It is an occupation marked by rapes and wanton killings of the poor. Haiti faces hunger…unemployment…lack of public services. The situation, imposed by IMF/World Bank policies, has steadily worsened since the coup and occupation.

Haiti’s jails are still filled with political prisoners. The poor majority still face political persecution, while the coup plotters & paramilitary death squads enjoy impunity.
